Mel Zajkowski (Zi-kos-ski)

Hi, I’m Mel

Life has a way of leaving imprints on us – some we overcome but others feel like heavy weights. Whether you are navigating the aftermath of a specific trauma, feeling stuck in repetitive patterns or struggling to connect with your partner, you don’t have to do it alone.

I am a trauma trained counsellor dedicated to helping adults, young people and couples find their way back to wholeness. My approach is grounded in the belief that while our pasts shape us they don’t have to define our future.

My Approach

I don’t believe in “one size fits all”. Instead I use a range of modalities including CBT, Narrative and ACT to meet my clients needs. For processing trauma I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitising and Reprocessing) therapy, a powerful evidence based tool designed to help move stuck memories.

About Me

I am originally from Wellington but moved to the beautiful Bay of Plenty about 20 years ago. I am married to my husband of 25 years and have one son and three grandchildren. As well as raising my son, I had a varied career in management and sales before pursuing my lifelong dream of becoming a counsellor.

I enjoy reading good books, watching movies, and keeping fit and active. I love spending time with friends and family, eating out and walking in nature.
