Helen Thurlow

At times life can feel hard and our struggles and challenges may feel too heavy to continue carrying without professional help. Counselling gives you an opportunity to explore these struggles as you are supported and encouraged in a non-judging, safe and confidential space, which can help you gain fresh insight and new learnings about yourself and others.

I am passionate about helping you to discover what is important to you and to identify the strengths and values that can help to empower you. A quote that I come back to again and again is that “counselling is all about possibilities”.

My counselling experience spans 10 years working mainly with individuals, and more recently, stepping into working with couples. The approaches to my work are informed by various counselling models, which facilitate the process of discovery and understanding. My approach to working with couples is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which I find makes a lot of sense in terms of understanding communication patterns in relationships.

I emigrated to New Zealand in 2005 with my husband and two children. Prior to having a family, my background was predominantly in administrative roles.

My desire to become a counsellor began in England and came to fruition here in New Zealand, after a number of years studying for my degree and practicing in various organisation. In my down time I love walking, reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy trips back to England when possible.
