The stories of our lives through the events and experiences, wanted or unwanted, that happen around us and to us, are the keys to our present-day ways of being. Our considerations, approaches, responses and understandings are based on these stories. These stories, and our formed views of those, are called narratives, and these narratives are both powerful and influential in wanted, and unwanted ways.
I am interested in the stories of your life and your formed Attachment Styles which started at birth through to childhood and into adulthood, and what is happening in your life now, which at times is unwelcome, unwanted and disruptive.
The space I offer within the counselling setting is a space to find meaning, make sense of, and gain understanding of these Attachment Styles and the unwanted narratives, and to find new and more preferred narratives and to rewrite our life scripts in ways that work for us.
While I utilise modalities such as Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behaviours, Therapy, Emotional Focused Therapy, my main approach is to use the Narrative Therapy (the maps and possibilities of our stories).
I was born in Cape Town South Africa but have lived in New Zealand for most of my life. I have had many diverse life experiences such as volunteering in the NZ Fire Service for 11 years, travelling parts of the world and working as a volunteers in Africa. I actively hike and speak at an Extreme Character Challenge (XCC) men’s hiking event in New Zealand.
My passion for counselling grew as I spent time with people in my various experiences and travels. I discovered my desire and want for better skills to effectively listen and help people navigate through their storied experiences with me.
I have a passion for walking alongside people whether individually or as a couple, through the counselling journey and to support them in navigating through life’s many and diverse challenges. I consider it a deep privilege to share a welcoming, safe, and honouring space with someone who chooses to share their footsteps (experiences) with me.
I am a husband, father, step-dad, grandfather, brother and friend.
