Penny Farry

Life is complicated, we hear this a lot in the world today, and I think when I stop and think about my worled and owrking with 100's of clients over the past 11 years, this certainly rings true.

Relationhips, health, work, fiannces can all be stressful at times, leaving feelings of failure and disconnection.

I understand the value of needing a space that provides the freedom to say how it is, and receive validation of what that person is experiencing. Working from a strength based solution focused approach, it is my hope to bring this privacy of thought inot a therapeutic context to unrevale and explore truth and feeling. I want each client that walks into my room to experience a relaxed atmosphere when they can be real.

While we all understand that help begins with ourselves, stepping into a counselling room is that very thing that will bring about that very process.

My statement when asked how can counselling help, my reply would be . . . everyone needs help at some stage in life, whether it be a new perspective or a new "how", or understanding a "why", a new way of thinking or doing. There are no rehearsals in life, so why not make this one better by being the best version of ME.

My experience is in working in . . .
  • bereavement
  • blended families
  • couples and families

  • physical pain

  • health and wellbeing - workign with the complexities of living with a terminal diagnosis

  • anxiety, depression, emotional pain

  • identity - who am I ?

  • spiritual abuse and confusion

  • communication and rleating

  • grief and loss

  • anger
  • women - domestic violence and sexual abuse

  • past hurts that seem to never let go

  • teenagers and young adults

  • work related issues, including working in a multidisciplinary team

I can also provide . . .
  • supervision for counsellors, social workers, health practitioners etc

  • student supervision for those who are embarking on this journey of helping others

Supporting practitioners is one of my passions. P:roviding a space to reflect, grown and learn together in a collaborative way supports supervisor and supervisee developmenty. It places value on the work we provide as counsellors and hte clients we represent.

Who am I ? . . .

My history includes head of department in well known Auckland high school, running the day-to-day complexities of a business unit. Moving into a counselling position I worked as a guidance counsellor at Auckland Girls Grammar, then Waitakere Abuse and Trauma for 4 years. When arriving in Tauranga I secured a position at Waipuna Hospice, where I still work part time. Taking a bold move into the unknown world of private practice has provided me with a new clientele while still allowing me the privilege and time to work with my palliatve care work.

Coming from Auckland 6 years ago has allowed me to appreciate Tauranga life. Where I am now able to spend time with family and friends who have already begun to experience this wonderful city, and the privileges that come with it. I'm a self confessed "foodie" who loves nothing better than to put my feet up and watch Master Chef. I think the reason why, is that I love food . . . but on top of that, I get to see people going for their dreams, putting themselves out there and taking a chance. Even if it costs for a moment, they strive to be the best and take life by the horns with courage and determination.

Professional Membership . . .

I have been a full member of NZCCA for over 11 years. I work under the guidance of the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct to certify my practice. As required I attend regular supervision and professional development to ensure safe practice for myself and my clients.
