My experience of being a counsellor for over 11 years has taught me the vaule of living in an authentic life and the personal belief of supporting an individual's right to be who they are and to live in a way that supports that worldview. I am convinced that it is through open and honest conversations facilitated in safe and confidential environment those such possibilities can take place.
Everyone at some time will experience some difficulties of some kind. Having a time just for you to unravel thoughts and experiences is in itself therapeutic. Working collaboratively brings together experience and skill where client and counsellor meet to untangle lived experience. Refocussing and promoting change being the outcome, bringing a sense of confidence back into the issue.
My counselling journey began as a guidance counsellor at Auckland Girls Grammar, woking alongside adolescents in a high school environment. I then worked at Family Action Counselling Service for 5 years working with teenagers and adults who were experiencing domestic violence and sexual abuse. For the last 5 years I have worked and currently work at Waipuna Hospice, working with families and patients living with a terminal diagonsis. My experiences have included;
health and wellbeing and the complexities living with a terminal diagnosis
grief and loss
work related issues, including working in a multidisciplinary team
self esteem and identity
anxiety and emotional discomfort
understanding blended families
I have been a full member of NZCCA for over 11 years. I work under the guidance of the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct to certify my practice. As required I attend regular supervision and professional development to ensure safe practice for myself and my clients.
Supporting practitioners is one of my passions. Providing a space to reflect, grow and learn together in a collaborative way supports supervisor and supervisee development. It places value on the work we provide as counsellors and the clients we represent.
