Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei
Seek the treasure you value most dearly: if you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain
This proverb speaks to and honours my story so far but it also speaks to how I view our struggles and difficulties. Each of us at times are overwhelmed by the pains, it may feel like they have cast a shadow over our deepest longings and desires for ourselves and how we can connect and act on these. However, in my own life and in speaking with others we have noticed when we focus on the treasures and values we hold, this empowers us to address the struggles, pain, sadness, disconnection so that we may discover other avenues of possibilities available to you that moves you towards what is most valued and important for you and your whanau.
My Story so far . . .
My story begins when I was born in England in 1971 and raised in New Zealand from 18 months old. I was raised by my parents, young immigrants determined to carve a life out for themselves and their family. Their determination and desire to fulfil this dream did and still does prove to be both rewarding but also contains many challenges and difficulties for our growing family.
Today, I am married and thoroughly enjoy sharing my life with Phil. Together we share in the thrills and trials of raising 2 young men passing through mid- late adolescence. These young men keep us humble, challenged and encouraged in becoming more compassionate in our role as parents, each day.
I would describe my work history as varied and colorful, however working with people in people helping professions has been the constant theme. These include kiwifruit and potato grading, retail management, property sales, nannying, teaching/mentoring, community support group coordinator and support worker for adolescents.
Our Work Together . . .
I work half of my week in our counselling practice engaging in
my passion of joining with you to create meaningful
conversations about you and your life. This leaves my other half of my week to
continue to read, study and take part in my on going passion for learning, so I
can best serve my profession and the people I work with.
do enjoy working with adults and families, I especially enjoy working with
adolescents and children. I am child-centered and use play therapy, drawing,
figurine work, metaphors and dream work to assist our work together.
am also passionate about how we are being in our close relationships with our
partners, husbands and wives. I work using the framework of Imago Relationship
Therapy. Imago offers a clear way of understanding the journey from romantic
love, through to disconnection, frustration and conflict, and a proven method
for restoring relationships back to energetic connection, passion and hope.
Our First time together . . . what would I expect when I arrive?
We will meet in my rooms at 68 Tenth Avenue, Tauranga. You will have access to parking on the road. You will be greeted by our receptionist Sharyn or myself. You may be asked to wait in the waiting room, whilst I am preparing for your arrival. You will most likely be waiting alone, as our appointments are staggered.
Whilst in the room this becomes the sacred space for you to share your stories confidentially, unless we agree it would be helpful for others to be invited into these conversations. This may also happen if I am concerned for you or other peoples safety.
We will establish what you hope out of our time together, that may become the goal and focus for our work. We will speak of the presence of the problem and agree what will be the best way for you to address this.
You will be treated with empathy, non judgement and respect.
My hope for us is that we create a space, so that you can safely ‘be you’ as you tell your stories and gain a sense of empowerment and choice for your life's intention and direction.
